Single Suspension Design:
Vertical Load Support: Primarily handles the weight of the conductor and moderate wind/ice loads in straight-line spans (suspension towers).
Flexibility: Allows slight horizontal movement due to thermal expansion/contraction or wind sway, reducing stress on the tower and conductor.
Simpler Configuration: Uses a single string of insulators (vs. double tension’s dual strings), making it lighter and more economical for standard spans.
Hardware Components:
Socket/Clevis: Connects the insulator string to the tower (upper end) and the conductor (lower end).
Suspension Clamp: Grips the conductor securely while distributing mechanical load evenly.
Ball-and-Socket or Tongue-and-Clevis Links: Enable articulation to accommodate movement without overstressing the glass insulators.
Glass Insulators:
Advantages: High mechanical strength (~80–120 kN), resistance to environmental degradation, and easy visual inspection for cracks or punctures.
Fitting Compatibility: Hardware is designed to avoid point-load stresses on brittle glass, often using cushioning sleeves or forged connectors.
