120kn Tension insulators U120B

Tension glass insulators U120B are high voltage tempered glass disc insulators used primarily in overhead transmission lines to insulate and support electrical conductors. They have a mechanical failing load of 120 kN and are designed to bear heavy conductor loads as well as withstand wind and ice loads. These insulators are used for power transmission lines, helping to insulate wires and thunder-proof cables while supporting mechanical loads under high tension conditions. During lightning strikes or flashovers, although the arc temperature can reach over 3000℃, the arcing time is short, and the glass does not undergo annealing, thus ensuring long-term stable operation.

Key Features and Applications

Key Features: Glass insulators are known for their high mechanical strength, zero-value self-shattering (which makes faulty insulators easy to identify from the ground), and resistance to aging and arc damage. Safety and visibility-Any cracks or damage on glass are usually visible, which simplifies inspection and maintenance (fault detection becomes easier).


Applications: They are used for insulation and suspension of conductors in high-voltage AC and DC transmission lines
Because of its 120 kN mechanical rating, U120B can reliably support heavy conductors — making it suitable for medium to high-voltage overhead transmission lines under heavy mechanical loads (wind, ice, long spans).


“Disc string” configuration (i.e. suspending multiple U120B units in series) allows for scalable insulation levels — useful for higher-voltage lines, where several units are combined to meet required withstand voltages.
